Thanks to the overwhelming response to surveys conducted over this past year, I, along with a group of industry leaders, confirmed our beliefs that sports photography is as strong and as vital as any other aspect of the photography industry and that the time for The Sports Photographers Association of America is NOW!
A lot will be done to see that the successes and accomplishments of those of us who serve the photographic needs of Sports will no longer go unnoticed. We play a monumental role in society and WE WILL be recognized.
SPAA will lead the charge in forming education programs, seminars and workshops. There will be conventions and tradeshows for our supporting vendors to display their merchandise, forums for industry trade, mentoring and discussions of emerging technologies. Recognition programs will be established to applaud those who have contributed to the betterment of our industry. A Sports Photographers Hall of Fame will recognize those notables who came before us as well as the stars who will mold the future. When membership reaches sufficient numbers, a benefit program will be instituted for insurance to cover healthcare, life insurance, liability and equipment.
An additional benefit to SPAA members is a partnership that has been formed with The National Association of Photoshop Professionals. NAPP provides educational programs and product discounts to its 27,000 plus Adobe Photoshop user members. Photoshop has proven to be a mainstay in the creative product applications used by and produced for the Sports Photography community. A SPAA/NAPP joint membership is offered to help us keep pace with the advances in digital technology. As a member, you are cordially invited to attend the SPAA Kick-Off to be held March 1, 2003 at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The time and place has been established to coincide with the PMA Convention and Trade Show opening the following day, March 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Admission to the Kick-Off is FREE for those who join before Dec. 15, 2002. Space is limited so I urge you to act now.
